Young man, God wants to enlist you in His service. Perhaps you think that “being spiritual” is for older people. Perhaps you think being a dedicated Christian is boring. That’s not the story the Bible tells! Consider the following men in the Bible:
Joseph was sold as a slave at age 17 (Genesis 37:2). He dedicated himself to purity in a heathen land. He was sentenced to prison and then became second-in-command.
David was “but a youth” (I Samuel 17:42). He killed a lion and a bear and faced Goliath.
Daniel and his three friends were taken to Babylon as teenagers (the word children in Daniel 1:17 refers literally to young children or teenagers). They stood alone for their convictions and survived three death sentences.
John the Apostle was likely a youth when he first followed Jesus since he wrote Revelation approximately 60 years later.
Timothy was a young man mentored by Paul (1 Timothy 4:12). He was a traveling companion of Paul and a preacher.
God’s power was at work in the lives of many young women too. Think of Miriam by the Nile, Rahab on the wall, Ruth in the field, Esther in the palace, and Mary in Nazareth.
How many other Bible characters, whose ages are unknown to us, were “but a youth”? We don’t know. But we do know that at least some Bible characters, dedicated to God in their youth, witnessed God’s power in their lives. None of Daniel’s faithless peers got a tour of Nebuchadnezzar’s super-heated furnace or a night with Darius’ big cats!
The new article, “A Challenge and Encouragement to Men,” points young men (and older men too) toward God’s best for their lives. Will you accept the challenge?
