We all understand to some degree that the world in which we live is a broken place full of suffering and sin. For some people this reality is deeper and more personal than for others. The Apostle John summed the whole thing up by saying “the whole world lieth in wickedness.” (1 John 5:19)
The profound problem of humanity was expressed in these words by Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn: “The line separating good and evil passes not through states, nor between classes, nor between political parties either, but right through every human heart.” Evil is not only without; it is within. “The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked: who can know it?” (Jeremiah 17:9)
The evil in our world is not merely impersonal, nor is it spread only by the natural course of nature. It is promoted actively by the normally unseen world of Satan and his demons. This is the source of the great cosmic conflict, as these fallen angels defy and resist the work of God and His holy angels.
We as humans play a vital role in this conflict, despite being frequently oblivious to it. But God has not abandoned us to our own futile efforts. “For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.” (2 Timothy 1:7) “Ye are of God, little children, and have overcome them: because greater is he that is in you, than he that is in the world.” (1 John 4:4) For the believer who has been born again by the Spirit of God and is now His child, victory is assured. The good news is that God offers this gift of adoption to everyone who will come to Him.
Our latest publication, “Angels, Satan, and Demons” by Harold S. Martin, is offered in order to provide some insight into our supernatural allies and enemies. Just remember that no power on earth can ever match that of the Shepherd and Bishop of our souls, through Whose sacrifice we may obtain eternal life.
