There are stories in the Bible that some of us have a hard time imagining. While we believe the historical accounts are true, we just can’t quite picture ourselves in those situations. Such is the story of John the Baptist.
We can read about this character near the beginning of each of the four Gospels. To us in the West, the description of his lifestyle seems about as strange as finding a box of locusts in the breakfast aisle of your local grocery store. But he drew large crowds of people to his preaching post in the wilderness, and there he delivered a powerful message that was designed to prepare the hearts of the people for the humble but monumental appearance of the Messiah.
This is the topic of the new article by Harold Martin entitled “John the Baptist: Messiah’s Forerunner”. Following in the current series of biblical character studies, this article focuses on the enigmatic preacher we know as John the Baptist.
